Solving skills challenges with vocational tech - our call to business

With Ufi grants of up to £300k available, education technology firm Can Studios is inviting organisations to highlight where they believe vocational technology could tackle issues arising from the changing nature of work, at a breakfast workshop.

Following announcement of Ufi’s VocTech Specialist funding round, Can Studios is hosting a free workshop for employers and training providers on 13 March 2019. The event will help organisations explore the possibilities for bidding – ahead of the deadline for stage one applications to Ufi in April 2019.

Digital technology can dramatically improve how vocational learning is developed and delivered – and make it more effective, accessible and affordable.

“With this funding, Ufi is providing a chance for any business to shape vocational tech to build the skills it needs to thrive into the future.”

Paul Hilton
Can Studios Technical Director

Can Studios Technical Director Paul Hilton said:

“Although most employers use vocational technology, few ever get much say in developing it.

“With this funding, Ufi is providing a chance for any business to shape vocational tech to build the skills it needs to thrive into the future. As software developers we need to ensure we’re focussed on what business really wants, which means making the time and space to listen.”

The VocTech Specialist funding is aimed at early stage innovation, and includes a funded Discovery Phase to help projects to crystalize thinking on the right way forward.

The workshop will give participants an opportunity to:

  • share challenges and exchange ideas

  • get input from technical developers in software, virtual/augmented reality and AI

  • identify any areas of synergy

  • consider potential partners for collaborative applications to the VocTech Specialist fund.

No experience of developing digital products, or of learning theory and practice, is needed.
